The 24-Month STEM OPT Extension is an additional benefit from United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that allows international students in F-1 status who receive a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in an approved STEM field to apply for a 24-month extension of their standard 12-month Post-OPT period, twice in a lifetime.The 24-month extension replaces the 17-month STEM OPT extension previously available to STEM students (see 73 FR 18944).
